Hired skis, poles & boots for the day for 20CHF, then breakfast with KK on croissants & coffee. Warm-up lap round the "Boucle du village" (6Km) returning knackered to top up on soup and bread before the hash. Glorious sunny day so we warmed up in more ways than one. Hash proper started with the 1311 train up to La Givrine., where we buried the beer in deep snow and went for a leisurely 2-hour ski in bright sunshine and cool soft spring air. A beautiful day with plenty of snow, a forgivingly soft piste and people skiing and tobogganing everywhere you looked. Back to a well-earned down-down (nobody else having found our stash) then back on the train to "high tea" with bread, cold meat, tea, coffee and "coupe Islay" - icecream with Laphroag whisky. A relaxing interlude followed with hot baths and time to read a book or two, then on to the on-on: Raclette with trimmings accompanied by Gros Plant, then fruit salad with Kolonel Kardiak sauce (vodka, icecream, fruit juice cunningly combined). Scribe 2: Men- they never remember the important things. Who was there - KK, DT, JA, IL - a select group. KK has the most alarming ski boots - a jaunty combination of lilac, yellow and lime green in fluorescent shades - and very futuristic glasses. DT htried to make it even more of a workout by carrying a rucksack full of bricks. IL & JA were cross-country virgins and managed OK with only the minimum of downhill pile-ups. KK provided aromatherapy bath oil and what with the generally relaxing ambience provided by St.Cergue and the snow and the sunshine we were all nearly asleep by 6. Scribe 3: Imagine an East European wooden puppet on strings, and the technique of making it walk. There you have IL for her first couple of Km on creoss-country skis. Then a gradual softening in the movement and a considerable increase in speed. In fact the difference in speed between KK and IL went from 60% in the first Km down to 33% in the middle of the run, before rising again as the effect of fatigue and medical jabs took their toll, and both IL and JA went A over T. This last impressive pile-up was supervised from a safe distance by DT while KK sunbathed on a grassy patch a bit further on. Scribe 4: The hare ruled the day. Acting as a true hasher devoted to the welfare of the fellow-hasher he insisted that IL would be lonely if she did not join in the ski-hash and promptly produced Christine's boots and skis. As RA, he ordered perfect weather and made spiritual concoctions for his brood. His trail, an almost perfectly traced two lanes just wide enough for two cross-country skis, went on and on and on for 4-5 Kilometres without a check-back. Finally as biermaster he arranged four strategically-placed stops with refreshments on tap. Here's to the hare - he's true blue! From: DryDreamer < Marko.Spegel@cern.ch > Date: Wed., 3 Mar 1999 09:11:47 Subject: LGH3 Hash Flash Mar99 Saturday 13 Mar, St. Cergue (CH) Run 283 Cross country skiing ============================================================= Hare: Roy "Kaptain Kardiac" Damary Meet: At noon in front of Residence de la Dole.
