The Ice Man Cometh...
Yes, summer's short visit is over in Berne. Gone are the long, lazy days at
the Marzili; the Aare, tired of its brief avuncular warmth, once more
chills and cuts to the bone; and the Bdrenplatz, that shop window of summer
social happening, returns to its cold, deathly state of empty, cluttered
aluminium chairs, half-optimistic pigeons and buskers, and black-clad,
world-weary shoppers. And still several more interminable months of waiting
until the ski season...
...DO NOT DESPAIR !
Your FAVOURITE club is once again
! OPEN TWICE A WEEK !
providing you with a warm retreat, convivial company, friendly bar-staff
and drinks at unbeatable prices, anywhere in town. So why not pop down one
night for a drink and chat, meet some new folk and maybe even buy the
bar-staff a coke...(or something stronger...!)
Here endeth the Ad.

Dance Party - 80's Night
(Friday 18 Sept. 8.30 pm 'till late)

OK, this is the Big 'Un to kick off the Autumn entertainment - spike up
that hair, fish out those drainpipe trousers and DM's, dust off those old
Nikes (they used to be called "daps" in my days) - we're having an 80's
night, with music supplied by our very own relic of the 80's: DJ Mark
Prince. Drinks for the evening will be kept flowing by Nicole (when she can
be dragged from the dancefloor). Bring your own CD's from that period if
you wish, and we'll give them a REAL LOUD AIRING for a change! See you
there!

Summer Retrospective
We had some good fun over the summer starting with the beach party in June.
The best men's legs contest really drew the crowds in! Winners of that
event were: Arjo Mukherjee, Peter Rohrer and James Waddell (blatant fix! -
Ed.). As you know, we were only open on Fridays during the summer and that
seemed to work quite well. The river rafting was very popular, especially
the latter one in August given the great summer weather and warm temps in
the Aare. Two rafts gave their lives on the second trip but their sacrifice
was well worth it - it was a great time with a lot of laughs. A big thank
you to Shawn Watson for organizing both rafting trips (and for kicking
Yours Truely's butt and making me go), and thanks to Craig Valentine who
loaned a raft even though he didn't go (yes, his raft made it through).

Bar Sports Night
(Friday 16 October 8.30pm)

Fancy yourself as a bit of a pool hustler?
Better than Robin Hood with the arrows?
Can drink your grandmother under the table?
If so, then come and prove yourself Numero Uno at our BAR SPORTS NIGHT.
Planned Events: "SPECIAL VARIETIES" OF SPEED POOL, DARTS, BEER-DRINKING,
PUB FOOD RACE, YARD OF ALE, COCKTAIL guessing, TIDDLYWINKS, BLIND pinball
and anything else crazy I can think of in the meantime (suggestions most
welcome). Any Boys or Girls interested? Let me know asap so I can figure
out how to arrange it and work out an approx. entry fee and prizes. I'll be
putting up a provisional signing-up form on the club noticeboard within the
next few weeks. Final details will be posted there by beginning of Oct. (if
there is enough interest). Referee's decision (i.e. mine!) will be final
in all cases. CAUTION: anyone making any "improper emissions" in anything
but the toilet will automatically be disqualified!
