THE GREAT THAMES VALLEY PRE-RAMBLE to CYPRUS IH96
30th May-6th June 1996
If you are staging through London ON ROOT to Cyprus IH96, this is the
latest story of the entertainment we'll have for you. If you haven't
booked your London hotel yet, you had better hurry; there's a soccer
tournament at the same time which will take up a lot of hotel rooms.
We are not making any special registration forms, it creates work for
us and probably entails cost to you. This leaves us somewhat in the
dark regarding numbers, but latest gossip from USA, Asia and Europe
suggests we could have anywhere between 400 to 800 hashing at some
point in London during this time..... Luckily London has several
thousand pubs so you'll get a beer somewhere along the way..
Each hash will run at their normal time on their normal day, in their
normal area. Cost will be nominal ( 1 GBP or so ) to cover
down-downs. The On-Ons are all pubs so you buy your own beer, and
food IF it's available. If it isn't, there's usually restaurants of
all kinds/ budgets nearby. Each hash will have haberdash for sale,
and all are accessible by public transport.
NB: For hash tours to Edinburgh / York , 1st-4th June, and Jersey /
Guernsey, 2nd-4th June, see attached draft itineraries..
To keep the numbers manageable, we'll have more than one run site
some days:
WEDNESDAY 29th May: 8pm - TBA but possibly Wimbledon
THURSDAY 30th May: 7pm - West London H3 run site 1 - short/medium runs
- West London H3 run site 2 - medium/long runs
FRIDAY 31st May: 11am - Currently Un-named North Thames H3
presents:
"THE ULTIMATE CIRCLE"
A pub crawl around the entire Circle line on the London
Underground. 28 stops - there will be a trail to the best pub
from each station. 6 main starting points - buy yourself a One
Day Travelcard - cost about 3 GBP, and be at one of these main
starting points by 11am when the pubs open. Then spend the whole
day travelling the Circle Line, stopping at random, and sampling
the pubs and the beers. If 400+ people do this you'll be bumping
into hashers all day ! It is JUST possible to do all 28 pubs in
one day, but it requires running to each pub, and depends on
getting served instantly when you get to there, which is not
guaranteed...
SATURDAY 1st June: 7pm - First UK Full Moon H3 Run number 84 Royal
Forest Hotel, Chingford, Essex ( Chingford British Rail Station,
via Liverpool Street station ) Excellent long, medium and short
runs around Epping Forest, one of the last remaining original
examples of the deciduous forest which once covered lowland
Britain.
SUNDAY 2nd June: 11am - Surrey H3 - beautiful green Surrey
countryside with trails set by one of the oldest hashes in the
UK, well over 1100 runs and still counting!
- Or, if you want to travel further afield -
4pm - Bicester H3 - a special run IF there's
enough interest, set around Oxford, an historic varsity town a
couple of hours West of London by train - another one of the few
hashes in Britain to have passed the 1000 mark ! IF you're
interested, let us know now.
6pm - North Hants H3 - more Surrey or Hampshire
green scenery with the hash that successfully held UK Nash Hash 95.
MONDAY 3rd June: 7pm - LONDON H3 - TBA but probably a choice of runs again.
Also 7pm - Old Coulsdon H3 400th- South of London.
7pm - Herts H3 - North of London
TUESDAY 4th: 7pm - CITY H3 - two Central London run sites
WEDNESDAY 5th: 8pm - BARNES H3 - Surrey and Middlesex area
THURSDAY 6th: 7pm - WEST LONDON H3 - err..West London again..
GENERAL COMMENTS:
If the run is from a station and there's nobody there - we are
probably starting from the nearest decent pub, it should be written
on the ground outside the station with a chalk trail of "P"-shaped
arrows leading to it.
The mismanagement of each hash will try to treat you to the best
locations in each area, for instance Wimbledon Common; Putney Heath;
the banks of the Thames in the City; the curry houses of Southall;
Osterley Park; Hyde Park; and we'll try to have a beer stop in the
gardens of Buckingham Palace but I think she's a bit busy at the
moment.
The next flyer will have more details of the run locations, but pass
by the Hashpitality Desk in the Forum to pick up the correct story
when you're here.

Thames Valley Pre-Ramble HASH TOURS December 95
- PROVISIONAL ITINERARIES
1. Edinburgh - York
===================
Edinburgh H3 run at 11am Sundays. Yorkshire H3 run at 7.30 pm on
Mondays. Edinburgh H3 are prepared to organise some sort of party /
piss-up / pub crawl on Saturday night, and Yorkshire H3 can lay on a
tourist trail around York, so why not do the following:
SATURDAY 1st June:
8am British Rail train from Kings Cross station, arrives Edinburgh
Waverley station 12.39pm. Enjoy the scenery of the Eastern main line
through England and Scotland from an air-conditioned fast train.
Enjoy Edinburgh's impressive architecture and splendid natural
location ( not to mention a staggering density of pubs ) on Saturday
afternoon after checking into your centrally located B+B. Join the
esteemed members of Edinburgh H3 and T.N.T. H3 for a whisky or ten
in among the numerous local beers !
SUNDAY 2nd June:
11am run with Edinburgh H3, run number 801. Beautiful hilly
countryside is within easy reach of Edinburgh centre. Continue
feasting your eyes on the glories of Auld Reekie, and possibly hit a
few more pubs that evening...
MONDAY 3rd June:
9am train from Edinburgh Waverley to York, arriving 11.37am. Founded
on the banks of the River Ouse, this town was a Roman stronghold and
boasts many remains of this era. Later, the Vikings took over, also
leaving many relics of their reign. The National Railway Museum is
here, too, if you're into that sort of thing....7.30pm, run with
Yorkshire H3, a tourist trail from a pub near the station. Plenty of
choice of B+B type accomodation close by.
TUESDAY 4th June:
Continue the tourist trail. Trains back to London Kings Cross take
about 2 hours 15 minutes and are quite frequent, 1-2 per hour.
Kings Cross is on the Piccadilly line if you wish to connect straight
to London Heathrow, or the City H3 run will start at 7pm somewhere in
central London.
COST:
Budgetary at present, but a SuperSaver train fare as above, departing
Saturday and breaking the journey on the return leg, will cost about
62 GBP. Discounts for parties over 10 people, but then your train
times are fixed. If you depart on a weekday, or break the journey on
the outbound leg, fares go up. Hotels should be about 25-30 GBP pp/pn
max for twin room sharing, and may be less if the agent can manage
it. Thus total ( BUDGETARY ) 150 GBP plus beer, food ( other than
breakfast ) and hash costs.
IF you want to spend longer in Scotland, you may like to know
Edinburgh are having their 800th run joint with Hamilton H3, the
previous weekend. You could then run Glasgow H3 on Monday,
Dunfermline and Fife Tuesday H3 on Tuesday, Edinburgh T.N.T. H3 on
Wednesday, shoot up to Aberdeen for Aberdeen Seriously Social H3 on
Thursday, and so on..
HOW TO BOOK:
Contact the hash travel agent ( see hash flyer ) or if you prefer:
British Rail Telesales: +44/0 171 620 1032.

BUT IF YOU BOOK IT YOURSELF PLEASE LET THE HASH KNOW YOU'RE COMING..
Contact Periodical in the short term, next flyer will have contacts
and hotel info.
2. Jersey - Guernsey
====================
This one you can do after the Full Moon run on the Saturday. Visit
the Channel Isles, a warm idyllic tax haven just off the North-West
corner of France, although they are part of the United Kingdom. If
you're not familiar with how sunny and pleasant these islands are,
Jersey is perhaps better known as the setting for TV's "Bergerac".
The pace of life is extremely relaxing, not least because there's a
blanket speed limit of 30mph ( 50 kmph ) ! There are hashes on both
Jersey and Guernsey, and this is what we propose:
SUNDAY 2nd June:
Depart London Gatwick airport for Jersey, with Jersey European
Airways. Morning flight takes about an hour. The island is very small
so you can explore during the afternoon, before running and partying
with Jersey H3 in the evening. There's a very well-known harriette
from Jersey, so if you met her at Phuket/Rotorua/Orlando etc.,
you'll know this will be a party.... Accomodation B+B, surprisingly
cheap ( as is the beer..) as this is a tax-free zone..
MONDAY 3rd June:
Time for a bit more sight-seeing around Jersey if you take the plane
( fifteen minute flight, three flights per hour ), otherwise there's
a 1 hour ferry, or a shorter hydrofoil, to Guernsey. B+B accomodation
again. Guernsey H3 are "men only", but are EXTREMELY willing to make
exceptions in special circumstances. The party afterwards will be
splendidly hospitable, and if you thought your hash was a singing
hash, wait until you hear these guys in action....
TUESDAY 4th June:
More exploration of this colourful island before heading back direct
from Guernsey to London Gatwick on the evening flight.
COST:
Still working on this one. The flight package looks like it will work
out around 125 GBP, but flights will be fixed. B+B approx. 25 GBP
pp/pn twin sharing. Total ( BUDGETARY ) looks like about 175 GBP plus
beers, food and hash costs of course.
HOW TO BOOK:
As we are still working on the package, there's no formal booking
possible yet; however, we do want to know if we are wasting our time
and efforts, or on the other hand whether we might get swamped..We
may have to restrict numbers to 50 or so. Are you interested ? If
so, please let Periodical or your Channel Islands hash contact know
ASAP.
Where'd this all start?
