First USA Nash Hash
USA Independence Day Weekend 1998 (3 - 6 July 1998)
(Registration and Cost at end of message)
REGISTER POSTMARKED BY END OF MARCH AND SAVE...
Location -
Birmingham, Alabama ... the city which hosted the olympic football (soccer)
quarterfinals, with inexpensive hotels, brew pubs, some of the best beer in
the world brewed in town, scenic trails, friendly people and Southern hash
hospitality. Come to the Magic City of Hashing!
Host -
The USA Nash Hash committee consists of Magic City HHH hashers and the Global
Trash Hash. Members of this committee have a combined mismanagement
experience of dozens of interhashes around the world, from local to national
to continental in scope.
Transportation -
Birmingham has an international airport, is a hub for three major interstate
highways, is only an hour and a half to two hours from Atlanta, is on Amtrak
and is on a large number of bus routes. Too early to choose the hash
airline; that decision will be made within a year of the event. There will
be a pre-lewd bus or two ending at the site.
Accomodations -
Too early to select hash hotel. That decision will be made about a year
before the event. Birmingham is very inexpensive as cities go, so you should
get a good rate.
Haberdashery -
Large goody bag with T-shirt and much more than you'd think for such a low
price (some hashes are not even giving you a hash shirt). First 100
registrations will get an extra promo T-shirt in the mail before the event
and registrants prior to ninethy days before the event will receive items
personalized with their hashname. Everyone who registers will receive a FREE
Global Trash subscription until one month after the event from the time the
registration is received - a further sponsorship of the event from GT.
Beer -
There are several micro-breweries and brew pubs in the city. The Red
Mountain Brewery's red ale won a silver award in international competition.
They have been very supportive of our events in the past as well as other
breweries.
Hashes -
Pay your own pub crawl on Fri and Sun nights, main hash runs on Sat, Sun and
Mon, bicycle hash on Sat morning, tentatively scheduled. There will be
several trails of varying difficulty for the fleet of foot to the fat old
bastards.
USA Nash Hash Prelewd -
Begins Friday, 26 June 1998 in Orlando, Florida. The weekend will be spent
there and move towards Birmingham during the week hashing along the way.
Montgomery HHH will hold the Thursday evening event, then on to Birmingham.
Still a couple evenings open for North Florida, so if you are interested,
send a message right now to Stray Dog to inquire (GTstraydog@aol.com).
Prices and more details will be available after final itinerary is complete.

Q & A
Why a USA HASH? -
Another excuse to drink. After years of discussion, somebody had to do it,
so a few of us were drunk enough to take it on. Much smaller nations have a
Nash Hash. Why should the USA, the largest hash nation on earth, not have
their own Nash Hash. IAH does not fill the bill as it is much like EuroHash,
Pan Asia, etc., has been held in Latin America and Canada and is in Trinidad
in 1997, so the US is long overdue a Nash Hash.
Why 4th of July 1998? -
'98 is an Interhash year and starts what can be a biennial event alternating
with the InterAmerica's Hash. Let's face it, Interhash is back in Asia/Down
Under. The chief contenders for the year 2000 are in Australia. Therefore,
events are likely to be scheduled during their warmer months, not ours.
Since we may not see an Interhash in the America's for many years and most
American hashers cannot afford the around the world trip to Interhash, we
decided InterAmerica's Hash was a more important consideration. The 4th,
well even though some British hashers still refer to the U.S. hashers as the
"colonials" - but we know better.
Cost -
US$50 was the starting price. $90 until the end of March 1997, then $100
until 30 Jun 97, $110 until 30 Sep 97, $120 until 31 Dec 97, $130 until 31
Mar 1998, $140 until 31 May 1998, then $150 until 15 June 1998. Much less
than the price of IAH and well competitive with most other
national/continental interhashes.
Payment information:
Accept U.S. checks/mo on U.S. bank, U.S. postal money orders only,
International money orders in US$, Master Card or Visa credit card number
with exp date and billing address (if different from mailing address). You
may email or fax credit card orders. If you email the credit card information
to register, I suggest that you send the card number in one message and exp
date in another, clearly stating in the two messages what it's for. Don't
forget to send all the registration information required: Global Trash 4630
S. Kirkman Rd. #434 Orlando, FL 32811-2802 USA tel/fax: [1]407 523-1471 ALL
FUNDS will go to the hosts for putting on the event, with leftover funds
going to the next host for the year 2000. Refund policy - Should you decide
that you cannot make the event for any reason, a request for refund will be
honored up to 90 days before the event. First, your (probably) low-cost
registration will be posted to others by us with no transfer cost. If there
are no takers within 30 days, you will be refunded from us. Fewer than 90
days before the event, you may transfer your registration on your own, but
the recipient must reregister. Transfers with fewer than 30 days before the
event must pay a reregistration fee of $5, as we will have to remake
personalized items. Sorry - no transfers, refunds, or registrations after 15
Aug 98.

The USA Nash Hash is a hazardous event involving strenuous and dangerous
activities. I know to participate only in those I can do. I know that I
must not drive a vehicle while intoxicated and I have a right to get hurt on the hash
if I want to. If I do get hurt, hurt someone else or damage property, it's
my own bloody fault and I will not blame anyone else nor will my family or
heirs.

Subject: Change: USA Nash Hash Airline Number
PLEASE PASS on to your local hash members ... thanks:
After receiving complaints about the AN number from American Airlines, I found
that it was mistakenly assigned to two groups (some choir going to Orlando was
popping up instead of us). American airlines apologized and sent a new
contract with the new number that is now assigned to us: AN Number: 5568UB
Call American Airlines at [1]800 433-1790 to make your reservations giving the
number and that it is for "USA Nash Hash". For further details and a
registration form for the Nash Hash being held for the first time in the U.S.
on 4th of July weekend, 1998, in Birmingham, AL, browse:
http://www.gthhh.com/usanash.htm or if you do not have a browser, send me an
email request to that effect. The full transportion info now reads:

Subject: New! USA Nash Hash Hotel Info
Please copy and pass on to your hash...thanks... USA Nash Hash Hotel has now

Say "USA Nash Hash" to get room and discount. Room cost covers any number of
people and several suites available (manager says sleeping bags are OK.) After
discussion with other members of the host hashes, it was decided to center the
event in the city of Birmingham. The event will be from 2 to 5 July 1998.
There is a major convention in Birmingham that weekend, so it is important that
you get your reservations in as early as possible (now!) with the hash hotel if
you want to be at the center of activities. We have blocked the whole hotel,
but need your cooperation in getting reservations soon to keep it all to
ourselves. We will still hash out at the lakesite on Saturday, but the
majority of activity will be in Birmingham, so it is highly recommended that
you stay there. Free primitive lakeside camping is provided by Stray Dog, but
not recommended. Transportation from the camping site will be arranged for
early registrants, but not guaranteed for later registrations (after Feb).
Buses have to be reserved early, thus the problem. If you do register early,
you are welcome to come a few days early and leave a few days late to camp,
fish, whatever. Bottom line - the action is in town, so if only there for the
weekend, and you have money, book the hash hotel - the hash is in Birmingham!
The Pickwick Hotel is located in Birmingham's party district and at the central
location to a number of good pubs with great brew. It was named after the
Pickwick Club, a popular dance hall from 1935 to 1951. The nightclub burned
down and in 1988, an eight story building near its site was complete renovated
in a new, stylish, hotel fashioned along European lines (only with all the
comforts and space of modern American hotels). Five Points South is located
near The University of Alabama at Birmingham and the most prestigious medical
center in the South (translates to coeds, nurses and doctors in the bar
district for the imagination impaired).
After some discussion with the host hashers, it was decided to hold all the
event in the city, except for Saturday out on the lake. It will go something
like this, subject to change. Thursday will start with welcoming and
hash-check-in, with those staying at the hash hotel being served "tea and
Biscuits" from 3 - 5PM and wine and cheese from 5 - 7PM. Then we are off for a
pay your own way pub crawl, with free munchies at one of the pubs along the
way, followed up by a return to the hash keg at the hotel after the pubs close.
There will be a scenic city hash on Friday, with feast and entertainment that
night. Saturday morning the buses head out to the lake for a nice shiggy hash,
followed by hash olympics, skinny dipping, fireworks, singing and dancing
around the bonfire - a Global Trash Hash tradition - then return to the hash
hotel where the keg again awaits for late drinking. There will be short hare of
the dog trail Sunday morning from the Hash Hotel, then the traditional emptying
of the kegs for those who can come back out to the camping site. Dogs allowed
at the camp site if on leash and under control (Hey, it is Alabama!).
Remember, if camping, register early to ensure transportation to runs.

USA Nash Hash Deadline - Top Ten Reasons to Register Early
(July 2-5, 1998, Birmingham, Alabama, Home of Great Brew)
SEND ALL REPLIES DIRECTLY TO: usanash@gthhh.com
Next deadline for registration fee hike is December 31st. It is also the
deadline for that free subscription to Global Trash with your registration.
That giveaway was for a limited time for early registrants only.
Here are the top ten reasons to register early:
10. You can always back out with full refund for any good reason until March
1st and transfer it after that time with our help. You can't lose!
9. You get this shiney USA Nash Hash button to show off at interhashes for
all to envy.
8. The current fee schedule may change with increased costs in Jan, so the
next hike may be much larger than scheduled.
7. The hash hotel has limited space, so if you want to get anywhere near the
action that weekend, hurry up and reserve your room at least.
6. To get the flight dates you want, you must book early (now would be a good
time).
5. There is a major convention in Birmingham that weekend, so ditto to 6 &
7.
4. Legs is driving me nuts over the suspense of how many people are coming
(I'm used to it after Eurohash III, where 60% decided to pay double and
register at the last minute).
3. The amount of haberdashery you get will be proportional to the number of
days you register before the event. The free bibles and some other items
are already taken, but there is a lot more being given away if you hurry.
Many items (about US$40 worth) will deadline 31 Dec 97. If you had
registered at the beginning, you would have received more in haberdashery
than you paid for the event.
2. Numbers will be cut off for the Friday night feast, as the banquet hall is
limited. I think I guessed right, but you never know. Several events in
town required that we decide on location now.
1. Go ahead, get it over, you'll feel better, I know I will!
(I know, whining from a mutt with the worst rep in hashdom for late
registrations.)
We have registrations from all over the world, including from coast to coast
U.S and even Kuala Lumpur. The purpose of these reminders is to keep everyone
informed and encourage U.S. hashers to make this first Nash (National) Hash in
our country as successful as those in the U.K., Australia, Germany and
elsewhere. They have set a high standard and we've got our work cut out for
us, but I'm sure the hash country with the largest number of hashes in the
world can get it together. Get those registrations in and show early support
for our own Nash Hash. Let the colonialists know on Independence Day that we
can unite and put on a good show! (P.S., Brits are welcome at this event and
there will be a special wake held for the death of the Empire on the 4th of
July.)
