I arrived at Lake Orta on Friday night, straight from the land of the
boring people, and was met by Tonedeaf, straight from the Under world of who
knows where. I arrived with Bwana who had also come from a land full of boring
people (an office full of accountants). After the second bottle of red wine
in a local restaurant, we soon forgot about the boring people and set about
the serious business of choosing the third bottle. Several bottles
later, we ended up in the Enoteca where Tonedeaf managed to consume/buy most of
the stock of wine (then wondered on Sunday morning why he had no dosh
and was unable to pay his hotel bill). Saturday morning, awoke
to glorious weather (accompanied by sore head and dry throat) and Bwana,
Tonedeaf and I set off to set the run. Bwana had already decided the lay out
of the run and Tonedeaf and I spotted some of the old "GM" dictatorship traits
setting in. We were consoled by the fact that Freddie would be arriving in
the afternoon to quash any such traits. At 4.30ish the pack started to
arrive (apart from our Beer Master, Paint Stripper who had been at Orta since
1.00 and carried the beer up and down the hill three times while we were
stuffing our faces in a nearby restaurant).
Good to see the return of Death Roll and Louise "Sloane Ranger" (who appeared
later due to a throat infection) from darkest Sudan. Some new hashers arrived,
ex Brunei H3, now living in Stresa ( these were not going to be quiet and
retiring hashers) and we had a visitor from Armenia - Hasmick. We
supped some beer and then headed off in search of the trail, with Paint
Stripper and Stevie Blunder calling the first ON ON. We continued on the
scenic route around the lake, through the woods and went uphill to find the
song stop, where we were entertained to a tuneful version of something I
can't remember (most probably Father Abraham or one of the other two songs
we normally do). Continued on to find the Ladies check, with Death Roll
finding the "ON" (it seems he has changed sex while in Sudan, the Sudanese
have funny habits.) White Fang followed in hot pursuit in her trendy shiny
leggings, and the rest of us trundled up the hill. We
headed up the route to the Sacre Monte, finding some false trails and
arrived outside a small shrine where Fabulous lead us in song. After
that we headed down hill, into the town and arrived at a "B" -beer. The
pack were instructed to load into rowing boats - and being hashers they
did exactly what they were told. Beer was distributed and we had our beer stop
on water (apart from Bwana and I who travelled in style in the power boat - The
rowing boats arrived at the island and the walkers and runners followed their
respective trails, only to meet in the middle going in opposite
directions- some Ex Brunei hashers had not actually worked out that we were on
an island and even tried to short cut. We loaded on to the boats again and I
found myself in the same boat as Freddie, our GM who seemed intent to swim
back - we decided to restrain him for fear that Bwana would assume control
of the Hash again. Bart managed to get us back to the shores of Orta
again and we picked up the land trail. We went
through the maze of streets, split walkers and runners at one point, with
the runners continuing along the lakefront. At one point we had a song
stop, with Stevie Blunder, Liana and Brian leading us from a rock in
the lake.
At another point several hashers risked injury clearing a eight foot jump, all
following Death Roll and Stevie's example. The more sane of us jumped the bar
to risk abuse in the circle. Soon we all arrived back at the carpark for
the circle. Three harriettes from Stresa were missing, but we started the
circle anyway. Visitors, Death Roll and Hasmick were awarded down downs,
followed by White Fang for the trendy trousers, the Stresa guys (Martyn
with a Y) in particular and Bill, (manager of La Brace restaurant, our
February 15 run location) for constantly interrupting the circle. Then Dai
Berry arrived, plus kids, in time to get his second milestone for zero
runs. The missing Stresa three arrived finally to get down downs and
then the hares were given beers. Cheesy Dick celebrated his birthday by doing
a 69 with Tonedeaf and then we decided (despite the winging of the Stresa lot)
to close the circle and head for the
restaurant. At the restaurant, chaos and paper plates reigned. Stresa
performed a moving love song, Armenia provided backing vocals on a different
version of "Oh Natasha", and Milan performed "Scotland the Brave, Old
MacDonald etc.). Brian did a wonderful job at Hash Cash, clutching
handfuls of money, No Grappa asked him where his pen and paper were, his
reply was "why do I need those?". Then he tried to give Tonedeaf some change
despite the fact that Tonedeaf had not paid yet - No Grappa took
over the task at this point. The evening continued in the
Enoteca into the small hours. The next day was relaxing by the Lake (as
was Monday - when I had to return to collect my passport which I had
forgotten - no more on this........) ON ON to Monday 6th.

Subject: Orta Revisited
Hash story from Orta;
Rough Knight had a flight to catch to Georgia (ex USSR) today Monday, so of
course she was particularly careful looking after her ticket, passport etc.
this weekend.
Not like Tone-deaf, who managed to leave his passport at the Olina Hotel
and had to drive back 30 km to get it on Sunday!
Another reminder for RK of how accidents can happen to careless (other)
people was Brian telling her, as she was leaving, that he was nearly given
her passport in error by the hotel when he checked out.
But RK is an organised person. She doesn't have problems with documents.
Thus Bwana, at home, late on Sunday night, was somewhat surprised to
receive a message from the hotel to say that they were still holding one
passport, belonging to a certain Miss Smith....................
If anyone is wondering why Bwana was not contactable at his office this
morning......he was in Orta.
No major changes have been deemed necessary to future plans..........so
far!

Does anybody know of a motorbike (scooter) for sale? I'm an American
living in Milan and I don't believe that I'll pass my driver's license
exam within the next two weeks. Therefore, I can no longer drive the
car and I'm looking for another alternative.
If you know of one on the market please e-mail me at:

Thanks in advance.
Kindest regards,
